All entry level or academy graduate police officers must complete a probationary period of 18 months. Lateral police officers complete a 12 month probationary period. During this time, officers will most likely work on a patrol shift. Patrol shifts consist of two teams, working a 4-10 schedule. One team works Sunday-Wednesdays, while the opposite team works Wednesdays through Saturdays. Either way, every officer has one weekend day off.
